GRIND Online – Best Practice in Web-Based Platforms ‘for youth and by youth’

A youth led, youth run website from Darwin has just been named a finalist in the Best Practice, Best Access and Best Youth catagories of the Australia and NZ wide ONline Awards. The Best Access Initiative category is for initiatives aimed to get the billions of users around the world online in future years. It concerns combating the digital divide, facilitating access for groups such as the elderly, disabled or socially disadvantaged to enable everyone to be able to use the internet. The wesbite – GRIND – has a simple, edgy interface with space for youth to interact. The website hosts information of local youth resources, such as integration guides, access to healthcare and a calendar of multicultural events. This is the type of initiative that NGOs and the UN should be looking towards for support and best practice.

Genuinely ‘for youth and by youth’:
