Pray the Devil Back to Hell

UNHCR, as well as UNFPA, the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and the Belgian Mission representing the EU Presidency were lucky enough to have Documentary Producer Abigail E. Disney join us for a screening of her documentary ‘Pray the Devil Back to Hell’ at the Palais des Nations last week.

Pray the Devil Back to Hell is an inspiring documentary about the role that women play in conflict resolution and peace-building in Liberia. It chronicles the remarkable story of thousands of women, who came together to pray for peace and protest peacefully. Armed with white t-shirts, this group of women of all faiths took on warlords and forced stalled peace negotiations to a resolution.

This documentary honours the strength and perseverance of women in Liberia and is a most compelling testimony to the ways in which grass-roots activism can alter the history of nations and continents.
